365 Days of Mommy – DAY 365

Past

It’s done. Mama Bug survived a year of maternity leave and blogging about it. And more importantly, so did Baby Bug, who is no longer a baby! I’m glad I chose to do this for a year. It has served as a fun way to communicate with family and friends near and far, was a good place to reflect on the awesome (and not-so-awesome) moments of having my first baby, and just helped me feel connected with the world during a time that could have been rather isolating. I hope documenting my experiences have helped others, or at least made them feel better about their own. But now it’s time to move on – even WordPress says so – I’ve used up 95% of my allotted blog memory, hah!

Present

Bug is going to daycare for the first time this week (just half days to help him adjust), I’m returning to work for in-service days for the first time in almost 1.5 years, and Daddy Bug is helping out a friend with teaching marching band camp before he goes back to work the following week. We’re busy, busy, busy and the school year hasn’t even technically started. I’m excited to work with my colleagues again, be in my classroom, and do what I love to do, teach science. I’m excited that Bug is going to have new learning opportunities and get to spend more time with kids his age. I’m anxious about all these changes too, of course!

Future

I’ve decided to continue blogging and have started a new blog, Bug Bites. I created a new blog because my blogging style will be different – think monthly posts, mostly photos and quick lists of updates (“bites” about the Bug Family). I hope that those of you who have followed my parenting experiences here will continue to follow them at my new blog! Daycare and working mom topics will rule, I’m sure. One of the big things we’ll be doing in the near future is moving out of my parents’ house, most likely this December. We’ve already started looking at rental options! In the more distant future, we plan on expanding our family and having a second baby (distant, distant, distant). So, there’s a lot to look forward to. πŸ™‚

Goodbye to A Year of Mommy, you have served me well!

Apologies – DAY 265

So this one time, I didn’t post on my blog for 2 whole weeks. Oh wait, that’s this time.

Sorry bloggy friends! The craziness started with getting ready for March for Babies three weeks ago and today was the first day I’ve had time to use the computer. No complaints, I’ve just been busy: we’ve had house guests, a visit from Pappy, 2 graduations, a birthday, a house party, a dinner out, Mother’s Day festivities, a play date, a road trip, and my baby truly turned into a toddler overnight. I even chose to read instead of post – I jumped on the Divergent bandwagon at Aunt Mandy’s request.

Anyhow, I promise a new post with pictures and videos and updates and all that jazz soon.

Here is someone else’s humorous blog post for your Friday entertainment. Ya think she’s a mom of sons? πŸ˜‰

Two More Great Mommy Blogs

A few days ago I was just remembering how when I started this blog, I featured mommy blog posts written by other women on a regular basis. I was sad that I hadn’t come across any in quite awhile because I found them to be touching, comforting, and motivating. And somehow today I’ve come across three!

  1. Lily Pads – Motherhood 101: The First YearΒ (posted earlier today)
  2. Five in Tow – Counting the Hours
  3. Small Things – To See What We Can SeeΒ (I’m in love with this entire blog. I’ve shared this post in particular, not because it’s a great mommy post, but because my mommy read it and thought of me. πŸ˜€ )

I hope my readers get something out of seeing what I’ve been reading and are as touched, comforted, and motivated as I am by reading them. (And not overwhelmed by me posting 3 times today!)

More TV Time – DAY 189

This is my 100th post! I wish it were about something more important than TV…

Back in September I wrote about the TV shows I thought I’d keep up with. Here’s an update:

  • Boardwalk Empire – It was awesome, especially after Daddy Bug and I got it together and actually finished it On Demand! I’m not a huge fan of the violence but I understand it goes with the territory. Anyhow, the story is great, I love the 1920’s, and I’m looking forward to next season.
  • New Girl – It’s not the best show but I love Zooey Deschanel and her quirkiness. It definitely has its funny moments.
  • The Office – Interesting since Steve Carell left. Not bad, but I do miss him and his antics. The Jim/Dwight rivalry always gives me fits of giggles.
  • Parenthood – It just finished but I haven’t watched the season finale episode yet. It’s on the list! I still love this show as much as I originally did.

Other Shows I’ve Picked Up:

  • All-American Muslim – I’m so sad this was cancelled. Screw you Lowes! I found it to be one of the most interesting reality (actually real life!) TV shows. I loved seeing how different their culture is from mine and yet how some parts of life are common no matter what religion or culture you identify with most. (Example: The newly married couple struggling after coming home with their new baby. Right there with ya guys!) It was interesting to see what it’s like to be both American and Muslim. Plus there’s something about a Midwestern/Middle Eastern accent that intrigues me. πŸ˜‰
  • Sisterwives – I don’t know what else to say except I KNOW this isn’t the life for me. And my husband feels the same way, thank the Lord. And yet, I still watch it. It’s interesting to see the experiences of people with alternate lifestyles, I suppose.
  • Teen Mom 2 – I didn’t so much as “pick up” this one as I just continued watching it from last season. This just ended, and what a tragedy these girls’ lives are. At one point I considered not watching it anymore not because it wasn’t entertaining, but because it was so sad. I really feel like that these moms in particular are stuck. Their struggles never end and they never seem to change. 😦
  • The Today Show – The only TV show that I watch when it airs… gotta catch up on my news! And Bug loves the local news parts, especially weather and traffic.
  • Big Bang Theory – I really took my time coming around to watching this one but I’m so glad I did. I love geeks because I am one! And I like that I get their science jokes. I watch the reruns on other channels and have been trying to keep up with the current season too.

Looking Forward to Watching:

  • 16 & Pregnant – Did I mention I have an MTV pregnancy problem? (No, I won’t be following up on Jersey Shore to see how Snookie’s rumored pregnancy is going.) The original teen mom reality show still pulls me in every season.
  • Game of Thrones – Did I mention I have an HBO problem too? I started watching this after Bug came home from the NICU. I can’t wait to see what happens with the dragons!

(Note: All this TV watching wouldn’t be possible without the help of On Demand.)
