Bug has learned a few new tricks this past week! Of course, I didn’t really capture any of them digitally… so you’ll just have to take my word for it. He’s getting better at sitting unsupported, can turn his tongue sideways, really jumps in his bouncy seat on his own, and wiggles the fingers of his left hand while he stares at them, amazed. He also doesn’t cry as much when we put him on his tummy and is better at rolling himself over too.
Other Bug news involves his rejection of breast feeding. I don’t think he’s opposed to breast milk, but he’s so distracted when nursing that he only goes 2-4 minutes, creating a stressful situation for the both of us (oh, and the other 3 adults in the house too). So, we’re doing bottles of formula during the day along with his solid foods and it’s been very successful. He still nurses at night (2am) and when he wakes up for the day (between 5:30 and 7am).
Bug went through all of his first vegetables and fruits! His favorites are prunes, bananas, apples, pears, sweet potatoes, and green beans. He likes carrots and squash too but we have to be careful he doesn’t eat them too often since they give him constipation. He doesn’t love oatmeal as much as he used to. He prefers to have fruit mixed in instead of eating it plain (I do too, lol). We tried a little rice cake finger food but without much success. He still likes his frozen fruit juice pops. Mimi bought us a baby food grinder and some ice cube trays for me to make our own baby food – I’ll do a post about this after I give it a few tries.
So the sleeping thing is going well since Bug really only wakes up once a night now! Still no 8 hours of sleep in a row but I’ll take it. We’re still working on breaking his half-hour nap habit and establishing 2 longer naps instead. He usually takes an hour nap in the morning and a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. He still takes a few shorter naps in between, but he’s getting there. It’s better during the week than the weekends.
Me, Me, Me:
In personal news, Mimi and I went “back to school shopping” yesterday (aka Mom bought me some new clothes for the fall/winter season because she’s so awesome and generous!). I preempted the trip by visiting the basement and my pre-pregnancy clothes. As I suspected, none of my pants fit. The positives of this situation included knowing exactly what I needed look for while shopping and having a concrete fitness goal. I know I wrote about getting in shape in a previous post, and now that I can’t pull some of my old pants above my thighs, it’s fo’ real. 🙂 I did get a few pairs of pants that fit now, plus some sweaters and long sleeved shirts.
Your reward for making it through this looong post is a baby video!
